Christmas Lights Magic

One of my favorite things to do during the Christmas season is to go look at all the lights. To see how each family sets theirs up in their own special way. They all seem so magical. When my kid were little we would drive around and look at lights. There was one neighborhood that encouraged people to get out and walk the block. It was always chilly out so we would all bundle up. I can still hear the laughter from all the kids.
I now do this with my grandkids and still cherish hearing the laughter and seeing the amazement in their eyes as they look at each house. They can see magic in them too. When we do walk the neighborhood everyone is so happy. There are many saying “Hello” and “Merry Christmas”. It doesn’t matter what race you are, or where you came from to see these lights. We are all there for one purpose and that is to see the magic these lights bring.
I do wish that we could capture this all year long. I pray that one day we can…but until then I will enjoy the Christmas season and the magical lights it brings.

Looking back on my blog

It is that time of year when we all start looking back on the year that is just about to end and look forward to the new one. I have learned different things about blogging this year. I started out with that new found energy that comes with the beginning of a year. Then about half way through other things started to take over and my blogging took a back seat.
I found myself reading many articles about blogging. Things that I should be doing or not doing. While learning about blogging I started to doubt myself. The articles are great for ideas but what I needed to remember is what works for some may not work for me. My brain started to get into over load. Writing was starting to become a task for me. What should I write about? What should my niche be? I had to step back, take a deep breathe and just start writing for myself again. Once I did this, I started to enjoy blogging again.
So when thinking about next year and where you want to take your blogging, just remember find things that work for you. Write because you enjoy it and let the words flow!!!!

A quiet spirit

Today’s challenge

Last night I woke up to my husband carefully putting another cover we put on the bed around me. The night air got a bit colder than we thought it would when we went to bed. This was such a sweet gesture. This made me start thinking about kind gestures we make to others. Things like opening a door for someone, or telling a stranger to have a good day. You may think these are small gestures, but they do make a huge impression. I know that if someone is kind enough to let me go in front of them in traffic, I am inclined to do the same for someone else. Acts of kindness can have a domino effect. I don’t get offended if a gentleman holds the door for me. He is not thinking I am incapable of doing it, he is being polite and kind. I challenge you today to smile at a stranger, hold a door, ask the cashier at the store how their day is going…I could go on and on with examples of how you can show a small gesture of kindness. Don’t do just one but do a couple. It will soon become a habit and you will see how it will make a difference in your attitude about life and people. Now go spread some kindness!!!!

Start pointing the finger at yourself

I am not a political person. I do follow headlines a and know that there is turmoil going on in the world right now. I am not pointing any fingers at anyone except….myself. If I want this world to be better it has to start with me. I have to be better in all aspects of my life. My family, business, health and habits. I need to start focusing in on these before I start pointing fingers at others. I find when I do focus on these others things, I don’t have time to point a finger at anyone else. My time, energy and thoughts are all on these things I am going to improve on in my life. I will make more time for my family. I will hustle more for my business so it can grow to it’s potential. I will take better care of my body so I can be here a long time to be able to be with my family and continue to work on my business. It all starts with creating habits to make these things happen. Please if you feel you need to point a finger in direction other than to yourself…think about the things that you want changed in your life. ONLY you can change those. I know that once you start to do this you will find there will not be any time left to point fingers!!!

30 People to be Thankful for

I posted this a year ago and I feel it is worth posting again. Find those you are thankful for.

 

We are now in November and it is the time of year people start listing and posting what they are thankful for. I have a new idea. I would like you to think of 30 people, one each day, and tell them why you are thankful for them. You don’t have to do it publicly if you wish not to. When you do, please tell them in person as well, not just a the post. You can text them or better yet call them.

Now if someone tells you they are thankful for you, let them. Please listen to all what they have to say and take it to heart. Be proud of why they are thankful for you. Also if you aren’t first on their list that is just fine. They are only supposed to do one person a day so it doesn’t matter what day you fall on.

Our world today is filled with such negativity and I would like at least one month that we share some positive vibes about the people around us.

Two simple steps that help me in the morning

I am not ashamed to say that I suffer from depression. I am on a low dose medication to help it. I have found however that the medication is not the only thing I need to do to help me. I have to make sure I eat right and take care of myself. I have found two things that I do every morning that help me throughout the day…and I feel they will help others. These two ideas are very simple to do and for whatever reason help me.

The first thing is that I do not sleep in. When the alarm goes off I do not hit snooze. Even on the weekends when I don’t set an alarm when my body wakes up I get up. I have always done this. My dad suffered from depression and this step helped him so it was pretty much how my family was raised..and yes I raised my children the same way. I challenge you to try this for a week or two and see if you don’t have somewhat more energy throughout the day.

The second thing I do is I make my bed. Yes it is a simple as that. Now my husband does get up after me, but when he does I go in and make the bed. There is something about a made bed that makes me feel I am ready for the day. It is the first task on my list of things to do. I feel accomplished by doing that task. Again I challenge you to make the bed everyday for a week and see if you don’t start the day feeling organized.

Now I am not a doctor or close to it, these are just two simple things that I have found help me to feel better throughout the day. If you do something different let me know. I am curious what others do.

Yes you can teach an old dog new tricks!!!

I am in the prime of my life…I am not afraid to say that I just turned 55. I am a firm believer in the saying you are as old as you feel. I do admit I do have those days when I feel quite older than I am!!! I do believe however, that no matter what your age you can learn new things. I recently got into the print on demand product business. I love it. I don’t have to store the merchandise here!!! In order to do this however I had to learn some different programs such as Photoshop. That used to be a very scary word to me. I would hear people talk about it and shudder. It sound so complicated. I shook away my fears and dove into learning about it. I watched Youtube videos…that is a whole blog within itself that will be coming soon….I found some inexpensive Udemy courses and I read quite a few posts about the program. I am happy to say I am pretty comfortable with it now. I know I have just scratched the surface on what I can do with the program, but so far so good with my new business venture. It has also helped me to promote and help grow my husbands real estate business by being able to create flyers and update his website. So yes I am a good example on how you can teach an old dog new tricks!!!
