One of my favorite things to do during the Christmas season is to go look at all the lights. To see how each family sets theirs up in their own special way. They all seem so magical. When my kid were little we would drive around and look at lights. There was one neighborhood that encouraged people to get out and walk the block. It was always chilly out so we would all bundle up. I can still hear the laughter from all the kids.
I now do this with my grandkids and still cherish hearing the laughter and seeing the amazement in their eyes as they look at each house. They can see magic in them too. When we do walk the neighborhood everyone is so happy. There are many saying “Hello” and “Merry Christmas”. It doesn’t matter what race you are, or where you came from to see these lights. We are all there for one purpose and that is to see the magic these lights bring.
I do wish that we could capture this all year long. I pray that one day we can…but until then I will enjoy the Christmas season and the magical lights it brings.
The most memorable thing that happen this past year is that my 9th grandbaby was born. Yes I am “Grammy” to nine beautiful little ones. Having them around helps me remember to see the world through a child’s eyes. Everything is so new and exciting to them. It is easy as adults to get bogged down with all the bad things going on. We can soon get such a dark cloud of feelings surrounding us that nothing makes us happy. There is beauty in the world. We just have to see things through child eyes. See how colorful a butterfly is or what a beautiful song a bird can sing. You will notice that if you start trying to find beauty it will become easier and easier to find. Soon that dark cloud is gone and we can smile again. Let’s all start having child eyes.
It is that time of year when we all start looking back on the year that is just about to end and look forward to the new one. I have learned different things about blogging this year. I started out with that new found energy that comes with the beginning of a year. Then about half way through other things started to take over and my blogging took a back seat.
I found myself reading many articles about blogging. Things that I should be doing or not doing. While learning about blogging I started to doubt myself. The articles are great for ideas but what I needed to remember is what works for some may not work for me. My brain started to get into over load. Writing was starting to become a task for me. What should I write about? What should my niche be? I had to step back, take a deep breathe and just start writing for myself again. Once I did this, I started to enjoy blogging again.
So when thinking about next year and where you want to take your blogging, just remember find things that work for you. Write because you enjoy it and let the words flow!!!!
Don’t let evil win!!!
Just want to jot a short note down to talk about not letting evil win. With all that is going on in the world it is easy to want to shut and lock all our doors and not go outside, let alone let our kids out. If we do that though I feel evil wins. We need to live each day like the gift that it is. We need to let our kids experience life. Now that is not to say you should not be aware of your surroundings at all times, but continue to live life to the fullest.
Go out and enjoy the good in this world!!!

This is an easy crocheted throw that makes a nice decor piece for any living room. It also is a nice size for a lap cover as well. I have used the color TigerLily for this picture. This is a good color to use for your Fall decor. The yarn is Red Heart with Love. I did 2 skeins of 7oz yarn. The finished piece I made was 21” x 36”. (It is folded in half in the picture.) You can make it longer if you want by just doing more rows. By doing the initial 100 beginning chains it will measure 21” across.
Crochet Hook: H/8 or 5 mm hook
Primary Technique: Crochet
- 2 skeins Red Heart With Love Yarn
- 4.25MM (US G-6)
- Row 1 : Ch 100, 1 dc in 2nd and 3rd ch from hook, *ch 1, skip 1 ch, dc in next 2 chs**, repeat from * across ending 1 dc in last ch, ch 1 turn.
- Row 2: 2 dc in first ch 1 sp, *ch 1, 2dc in next ch1 sp**, repeat from * across end by doing 1 dc in turning ch st, ch 1 turn
- Continue pattern repeating Rows 2 until size desired,
When the desired size has been reached fasten off.
Now I have used two different size of yarns for this pattern before. I have done a full 1lb size and I have use (2) 7 oz size skeins. If you use two, when the one runs out just join the new one and continue with the pattern. You can add different colors for a striped effect as well.
Fall is upon us. We break out the soft cuddly blankets and sweaters. We buy anything that has the word “pumpkin spice” in it. We don’t know why but we have the desire to stay at home a little more. Fall is a family time. It is a time to reflect on where we came from. Remember the path that lead you here, to this time in your life right now. Go back down that path and think of those who have truly inspired you to become who you are. Contact them and tell them that you are thankful that they were there when you were going down life’s road.
When planning for your home decor for Fall , you want to keep in mind what colors go with the Autumn season. The first thing I think of are the leaves that turn color during this time. They are a yellow to a golden to a light brown. There is a good spectrum to start with. You can go into some darker orange colors as well. Now a bright orange color will go with the Halloween activities that happen in fall. I will do a separate blog on Halloween decor. When thinking of a gold you want to think more of a golden tone, a soft tone, nothing sparkly.
If you crochet like I do, there are so many different yarn options in this spectrum. These yarns make create colors for fall quilts or throws. In my next blog I will have a very simple crochet pattern for a nice throw that looks wonderful on any chair or couch.
Fall color scheme is soft and subtle. You want colors that make your home feel warm and cozy when a person walks in. Many people when they think of Autumn, they think of cooler temperatures, cozy fire going in the fireplace and a wonderful spice scent in the air. Remember this when you are looking for that certain decor for each room.
Home décor does not have to cost a lot of money. There are so many places to find vintage and unique items that fit perfectly in how you want to decorate your house, each room for that matter. Yes, there are the big box stores that charge you an arm and a leg for a small item. Here are a few places you can go to find that perfect item you are looking for.
The first place is a garage sale. Many people have these and want to just clear out their garage so they price items to get rid of them. You can find pretty much everything at a garage sale. Now you want to make sure you can test an item especially if you are buying it for a décor item. Most people who are having a garage sale should not mind if you test it. Beware if they don’t. You don’t have to buy it because they say it works. You can just walk away. Don’t worry you will find another piece. For items such a chairs, take off the cushions to make sure that underneath there isn’t any damage or yes, even mold.
Garage sales seem to be seasonal. It really depends on where you live if they have them year around. If you live in an area that it snows during the winter well your best bet is to hit them when the weather warms up. There is another alternative, however, and that is an Estate sale. This is where someone puts the entire contents of a house on sale. You walk in and browse like you would a store. The same rules apply though, make sure you test electrical items and check furniture. A company, that the family has hired usually runs estate sales, I have found that most Estate sales run 3 days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. They first day it is usually crazy busy so if you can wait go the second day. Another thing that is common with Estate sales is that they usually start marking items down the second day and then even more on the last day.
Estate sales are my favorite place to go to find décor items. You can go to the site
You type in your zip code and it should bring up some sales around you. Some of the sales will post pictures of what they have to sell. You can go through and see what style of pieces the house has. If you find there is something that you just have to have you can go the first day. Go early and be prepared to but your name on a sign up sheet. Yes they do get that busy on the first day.
Try one of these this weekend. If anything they are fun to go to. You get out of the house and you see some very unique items. Who knows maybe you will find that one of a kind piece that you have been looking for. Let me know what you find!!!
I have changed my direction with my blogging. I still think that social media is important and will post some blogs on that but I have decided to focus in on a new niche.
Home decor is a passion of mine and I want to start sharing that passion with you. The reason it is my passion is because you can do so much with it. Each room can have it own special feeling. Many people feel that you have to break the bank to be able to decorate your home. They are mistaken. I will share fun and inexpensive ways to decorate your home. Each room to be exact. I will also have some patterns of DIY ideas as well. I love to crochet and I do different items for each season and I will share those with you. If you find yourself not the creative type, I will have the seasonal things that I make available for you to purchase as well.
I live in San Diego which is in beautiful Southern California. I do love the weather here. I did a stint in Florida which is quite the contrast in weather. I did enjoy the summer thunderstorms but the humidity not so much. One thing I wish San Diego had a bit more of was the seasonal changes. It does have some but not like in other states. I have decided that even if the weather outside does not correspond to the season it should be, I will decorate my house accordingly.
With this all said please check back and see what ideas I have for the first season that is coming up…Fall. I know that this is many people’s favorite season of all so I will have lots of ideas.
